Purpose of the Job:
To provide leadership to Letshego's subsidiary and mobilize the country personnel to achieve its strategic objectives set by the Group and Local Board. Responsible for the country's ongoing performance and management to produce maximum shareholder value consistent with observing its obligations to all its stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities:
- To be fully responsible for the Profit & Loss of the country's Business Unit.
- Board administration and support: Supports operation and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board members, interfacing between Board and staff, and supporting the Board's evaluation of the business.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Management: Leads the practical engagement with stakeholders to understand issues and develop relationships, mainly clients and customers, employees, governments and regulators, business partners, the media, special interest groups who have legitimate concerns or involvement and the communities in which the subsidiary operates.
- Supports the engagement and development of relationships with third parties to ensure viability and competitiveness in a changing business environment.
- Strategy and Management: Develops the country's design for Board consideration and approval and leads the Executive Team in effecting the Board's, and where applicable, its Committees' decisions, including delivering the strategy.
- Ensures the subsidiary's businesses and operations are within legal and regulatory requirements.
- Governance: Supports the country's Chairman and Head of Legal and Compliance concerning all aspects of corporate governance.
- Financial Management: Recommends yearly budget and capital appropriations for the subsidiary and local Board approval and prudently manages resources within those budget guidelines.
- Maintains and improves operational performance.
- Uphold standards of risk management at all levels and ensure effective supervisory control and management review.
- People: Articulates the culture of Letshego and leads a positive work environment.
- Mentor, motivate and coach staff to achieve organizational goals.
Knowledge and Experience Required of Job Holder:
- Master's Degree in Business / Finance or equivalent
- Minimum of 15 years in Financial Services organization with at least 5 years at the Executive Management level.
- Prior experience in microfinance will be an added advantage
- Member in good standing of a relevant professional institute.
- Knowledge of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management and general finance and budgeting.
- Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, PR, finance etc.
- In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices
- In-depth knowledge and experience in multi-currencies and foreign exchange management.
- Knowledge of fintech, mobile micro solutions such as e-wallets, mobile savings and commercial/retail/agency/transactional banking operations and solutions.
- Ability to lead and build consensus and relationships among multi-disciplinary executives, partners, and the workforce, including management team leadership
- Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing the vision.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills
- An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills.
