ABOUT LETSHEGO LESOTHO

Letshego Financial Services Lesotho started its operations in September 2012 as a credit only licensed financial service provider.

It is a subsidiary of Letshego Holdings Limited (LHL), a pan-African financial services group focused on financial inclusion, which is headquartered in Gaborone, Botswana, was incorporated in 1998, and was listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange in 2002. Today, the Group has a market capitalisation of approximately LSL8.4 billion or just over US$600 million.

Letshego Lesotho is one of ten subsidiaries owned by LHL that offer financial solutions across Southern, East and West Africa – servicing Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Swaziland, Tanzania and Uganda. LHL owns a majority stake in all its subsidiaries whilst promoting the inclusion of local stakeholders.

FOCUS ON CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

Letshego Lesotho has positioned itself as a financial solutions partner for the people of Lesotho. Through continuously improving customer experience, Letshego’s customer base in Lesotho has grown to over 6,000 since inception 3 years ago.

Through its steady retention of customers, Letshego’s net advances have grown significantly. This growth can be attributed to accessibility and simplicity. Customer access points are well distributed across the country in Butha-Buthe, Hlotse, Leribe, Mafeteng, and Quthing apart from Maseru itself. In addition to this, in 2014, Letshego Lesotho on-boarded an additional 20 direct sales agents to augment branch access points. This agent takes service to the people in Lesotho’s remote areas; this is more convenient for customers that cannot visit branches.

Letshego solutions are easy to understand, and are regularly reviewed to ensure they meet the needs and feedback of customers. Solutions provided by Letshego range between loans of LSL1,000 and a maximum of LSL250,000 over periods ranging from 6 to 60 months. Solutions are predominantly used by customers to improve their livelihood, either by way of funding new businesses, housing, education, or improving health.

GOVERNANCE AND CITIZEN EMPOWERMENT

Letshego Lesotho recognises the need for affordable credit and the Government’s call for services that foster income generation and wealth development for citizens. To this end our model is ideal. Prudent business principles have always governed our actions, and this is reflected in Letshego’s high quality advances portfolio through to its support of, and participation in, the evolving regulatory environment.

In addition, Letshego Lesotho has appointed three (3) additional, independent non-executive directors to its Board of Directors. All members of the Board have been selected for their expertise, leadership and insight into Lesotho and neighbouring economies, and are all Basotho.

Basotho have also been employed and trained to manage and run the business, with 97% of the total headcount being citizens. In 2014, our Group technology team worked with the Letshego Lesotho team to test, train and take on a new Group-wide, integrated customer, financial management and reporting platform.

GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

Over its 18 year history, the Letshego social responsibility and sustainability policy has aimed to address social, environmental, ethical lending and customer concerns in close co-operation with all its stakeholders.

We are committed to improving lives. Letshego earmarks up to 1% of after-tax profits annually to invest in programmes addressing livelihood improvement, education and health.

Letshego Lesotho has worked with the education sector for its social investment. In its 3 years of operations, the company has uplifted Lesotho’s best performing schools and students by hosting annual fetes and awarding prizes to outstanding performers. More recently, support was provided to the Centre for the Blind, Good Shepherd Teen Mothers’ Care and Hlokomela Bana. The centres take care of the blind, teen mothers and orphaned and vulnerable children respectively.

Letshego Lesotho continues to seek ways to truly improve the lives of every individual Letshego can reach.
