A Job vacancy has risen within Letshego Holdings Limited for the Legal Manager Role

 

  1. Main Purpose (Why does the exist)

The incumbent will act as an ambassador for Letshego’s Legal and Governance culture and values, demonstrating the highest standards of ethical behaviour and raising awareness of regulatory requirements as well as Group policies.  They will also be required to provide an advisory role for all Legal and Governance aspects across the entire business, ensuring best practice and adherence to the Group’s policies and procedures.

The role requires displaying of demonstrable leadership and overseeing the delivery of Legal and Governance functions in the form of best practice advice, business support, ensuring compliance with Corporate Governance, reporting and monitoring on all legal matters, emerging legislation applicable to the Group as an organisation and within the Group’s risk appetite.

 

  1. Critical Deliverables /Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Monitor and interpret applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards to ensure company compliance.
  • Provide expert legal advice on a wide range of matters, including contracts, employment law, intellectual property, and more.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents. 
  • Provide legal guidance to internal departments to ensure their activities adhere to legal and regulatory standards.
  • Supporting the Company Secretarial team to prepare Board documents and addressing matters arising.
  • Provide guidance on corporate governance practices and maintain compliance with statutory requirements. 
  • Interact with regulatory authorities, respond to inquiries, and maintain positive relationships.
  • Keep abreast of changes in regulatory frameworks and assess their impact on the company’s compliance strategies.

  1. Education, Knowledge and Experience of Job Holder:  
  • Minimum of LLB, Masters will be an added advantage
  • At least 5 years of experience in legal advisory preferably within the financial services industry.

Solid experience in regards to;

  • Ability to take a lead role in the formulation of policies and direction of practices to protect the legal interest of the organisation.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with Board Members, Shareholders and Management.
  • Ability to keep up to date with changes in legislation and advise the organization accordingly.
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • High ethical standards and the ability to handle confidential information. Various stock exchange fit and proper and registered officer qualifications an advantage;
